Service Engineering and Management (SEM) Master Program

Knowledge Engineering and Services Ecosystem

Knowledge engineering is important for enterprises for three main reasons: (i) The awareness that nowadays services and enterprises find themselves in an over-information stage, due both to Internet technologies and to bureaucracy technologies – more information is produced in hardcopy or indirectly on other media than can be processed; (ii) New challenges must be handled in services – keep global but think local; have a specific and reduced reaction time for each client; keep a homogeneity in managing processes all around the world irrespective of places, culture and influence of local markets; integrate changes in working modes – abstracting and instantaneously rending available information; share existing results; (iii) ambitious objectives have to be attained in services – productivity, efficiency, rending information usable by integrating those elements which are necessary for their understanding.
The basic objectives of the course aim at informing students on the acquisition of methods and techniques for modelling, design, implementation and evaluation of knowledge processing and management systems.
